Kellogg’s company recalled 28 million boxes of Corn Pops, Honey Smack, Froot Loops and Apple Jacks two weeks ago after some customers complained of an “off taste and smell” that caused “nausea and diarrhea”. Kellogg’s company has identified a chemical used in cereal box liners to be culprit. It appears that methylnaphthalene – which is a petroleum-based compound, leached out of cereal packaging and caused some people to feel sick. Methylnaphthalene – is still being tested in the oil industry to identify safety issues.
